I am so thrilled to announce Stripped Beauty as an officially vegan skincare brand! We have partnered up with PETA to join their Vegan + Cruelty-free, Beauty Without Bunnies program.
By definition, a vegan product does not contain any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. This includes, but is not limited to; honey, beeswax, lanolin, collagen, albumen, carmine, cholesterol, and gelatin. To us, being vegan means more than just not consuming animals. It means that we are dedicated to being 100% cruelty-free and environmentally friendly, which is why we don't use palm oil either.
Before making the decision to make Stripped Beauty vegan, we used raw, certified organic honey, sourced locally in the Hudson Valley. We made sure that we were buying from an ethical supplier, and we definitely were. Let me tell you, the guy who owned the bee farm that we were sourcing honey from, LOVED his bees! Honey is an excellent ingredient in skincare, which is why we were formulating with it, but it was extremely important to me for Stripped Beauty to be vegan.
To go fully vegan, we had to remove the honey from all of our products. We have replaced it with organic agave! I was looking for substances that were similar to the consistency of honey, and the first thing that I thought of was organic agave nectar. Agave is an amazing plant; it's honestly a gift from nature. Agave is great in skincare because it is rich in glycolic acid, which is a plant sugar that helps penetrates the skin easily. This is great to treat dry skin, acne, blackheads, and help leave the skin soft and smooth.
By incorporating more vegan ingredients, we are adding even more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; which help to hydrate and repair the skin. Our current favorite power ingredient is cold-pressed sunflower seed oil, which can be found in our face masks!
