You may have noticed a big formula change regarding Stripped Beauty's Flower Hour Toner. Something about the old formula never felt like it held its weight with the other products, so we improved it! The old Flower Hour will be loved and missed, but I think you'll love the new, revamped version. Let's take a deeper look into the changes we made and why.

THE CHANGES & BENEFITS

First, we added 5% Lactic Acid to help increase cell turnover and eliminate accumulated dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin. Lactic Acid is an AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) that is gentle enough for most skin types when used correctly. Our favorite benefit of Lactic Acid, opposed to other exfoliating acids, is its ability to help improve your skin's natural moisture factor to keep your skin hydrated and happy. This is what makes it suitable for more sensitive skin types.

We kept the White Willowbark Extract at 2% to help reduce acne and excess oil. White Willowbark Extract contains salicin, which is what salicylic acid is derived from. Salicin has both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, making it a great ingredient for sensitive, acne-prone skin.

Next, we added a blend of flower-powered ingredients like Aloe and Chamomile. These two ingredients work with the Rose Water to deliver a boost of hydration and soothe your skin.

We added ProVitamin B5 for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it a natural skin healer and protector. ProVitamin B5 can help relieve skin irritation, itchiness, and discomfort, perfect for freshly exfoliated skin.

Lastly, we switched the preservative back to phenoxyethanol. When clean beauty was on the rise, we experimented with new, "safer" preservatives, Leucidal. As more research came out, we found Leucidal wasn't a good fit for the standard of our products. We always formulate responsibly and keep phenoxyethanol at 1%.

With this formula change comes a new way to apply Flower Hour. Here are some basics that will help guide you on your exfoliation journey.

  • Start slow; you don't need to exfoliate your face every day. Use Flower Hour 1-3 times a week, gradually increasing the amount.
  • Always wear a broad spectrum SPF during the day when using actives such as AHA, BHA, and retinoids.
  • You will get the best use from consistency; this ingredient works over time. Your skin cycle is roughly 28 days, so stick with it and re-evaluate then.
  • Take before and after photos to track your skin's progress. Always talk to your derm or esthetician if you're concerned about any issues.
  • Slight tingling may happen at first and is normal; your skin is adjusting to the Lactic Acid. Stop using and talk to your derm if there is any further itching, burning, redness, or discomfort.
